Virender Sehwag was born in a joint Jat family in Haryana. His father, a grain merchant, stayed with his brother (Sehwag’s uncle). Sehwag has sixteen cousins and siblings. He was the third of four children of Krishan and Krishna Sehwag. His two older sisters are Manju and Anju, while his younger brother is Vinod.

Sehwag’s interest in cricket was first spotted by his father, who gave him a toy bat while he was only seven months old. However, his stay in Haryana was short-lived, as he soon moved to Delhi to attend Arora Vidya School.

Even though he was not academically gifted, he had a knack for playing cricket, specifically as a batsman, ever since he was a kid. While in school, the school sports coaches noticed his explosive batting style, as he was hitting boundaries left and right. His future talent as one of the best batsmen in India was first seen by his coach Amar Nath Sharma, who started training him.

Virender Sehwag started his professional playing career by playing for the first-class Delhi Cricket Team in 1997. While he was with this team, he got selected to be a part of the North Zone cricket team for the Duleep Trophy. In the 1999 – 2000 season, he was the highest run scorer with 274 runs, an unbeaten record.

Soon, he got his opportunity to play for the Indian National cricket team in 1999, where he played his first match against Pakistan. However, he was bowled by Shoaib Akhtar after just scoring 1 run.
